Now I shall eat for a day.

Wilson

Fish is a food item that typically comes from Ponds. It is also dropped by Merms. It restores 12.5 Hunger and stacks to 40 in the inventory. Fish can be dried on the Drying Rack for 1 day to produce Small Jerky, and are the main ingredient in Fishsticks and Fish Tacos using a Crock Pot. Fishing (like killing Gobblers) does not increase the player's Naughtiness level, meaning it is a safe food source for those fearing Krampus.

Unlike most other meat foods, fish can be eaten raw without losing sanity.

Cooked Fish

Cooked Fish is obtained from cooking Fish with a Campfire, Fire Pit, or the summoned star from a Star Caller's Staff. It can be used to cook Fishsticks and Fish Tacos or as a filler in a Crock Pot. Like other cooked foods, it cannot be dried on the Drying Rack; however, the increased spoil time is inconsequential when Fish are plentiful.

Gathering

Fish can be obtained by using a Fishing Rod in a Pond, or dropped by Merms when killed (along with Frog Legs).

Placeholder Trivia

  • When examined by certain characters, such as Wilson, the character will say, "Now I shall eat for a day." This is a reference to the proverbial saying, "If you give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach him to fish, and he'll eat for a lifetime."
  • When a Fish is on the ground, it flops around, then perishes, its eyes becoming crossed out.
  • Wickerbottom's favorite food is Fish, judging by her examination quotes. This is referring to fish being considered a "brain food".
